Dr. W. James Brown Dr. Brown joined the Blue Cross Animal Hospital in 1990. Raised nearby, his first profession was as a history teacher at the Nichols School in Buffalo. After completing a Masters Degree at Roswell Park in 1981 he went on to the new challenge of Cornell's Veterinary School, graduating in 1986. A country practice provided experience with "All creatures great and small" until joining Blue Cross.
He enjoys practicing medicine in remote locations including the islands of the Caribbean, New Zealand, and Tasmania!
His home is made more fun with his 2 Labs Chip and Dooley.
Dr. Jennifer Hillegas (formerly Angerosa)
Dr. Hillegas is originally from Scotia, New York, and grew up on the outskirts of the Adirondack mountains. She was inspired to the world of medicine by her father, an otolaryngologist. Her first introduction to veterinary surgery involved the local veterinarian in her area enlisting her father to perform a tonsillectomy on a spider monkey. Dr. Hillegas received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Union College in 1998, then earned her veterinary degree from Cornell University in 2003. She joined Blue Cross Small Animal Hospital in July 2003, and has a special interest in soft tissue surgery. She is an avid musician, and enjoys the symphony and playing the piano whenever she has the opportunity. She enjoys time spent with her husband and their Border Collie Mix Cleo and cat Tybalt.
Dr. Stephanie Tagliente
Dr. (Spakowsky) Tagliente is originally from Rochester, NY. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from Binghamton University in 2003. She then earned her veterinary degree from Cornell University in 2007. To gain another year of intensive training and experience, Dr. Tagliente completed a rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship with the Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Service/Pittsford Animal Hospital in Rochester, NY from June of 2007 to July of 2008. Her professional interests include cardiology and radiology (interpreting radiographs and ultrasound). She is also interested in shelter medicine and feral cat population management.
Dr. Tagliente joined Blue Cross Animal Hospital in October 2008, after moving to Buffalo, and she is very excited to have joined such a great practice. Her other interests include watching movies, ice skating, traveling, and spending time with family, friends, and her opinionated cat, Niblet.
Dr. Ann Marie Tierney
Dr. Tierney was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. While completing her bachelor’s degree in physical anthropology at the University at Buffalo; she practiced as a licensed veterinary technician locally for 13 years before pursing her life long dream of becoming a veterinarian. She went on to earn her veterinary degree from Ross University.
After many years in practice as a veterinary technician her reasons for joining the Blue Cross Animal Hospital were due to the cohesive family nature of the staff and the academic support of her colleagues. She takes a special interest in emergency and critical care, anesthesia, ophthalmology, and pain management. Her goal in joining the Blue Cross Animal Hospital is to bring current modalities with respect to her areas of interest while enjoying the diverse clientele.
Her interests outside of practice include, spending time with her furry friends (3 dogs and 5 cats). Her other interests include golfing, horse back riding, snow boarding, and traveling.

Dr. Susan Jeffrey
Dr. Susan Jeffrey is a 2006 graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to joining Blue Cross Animal Hospital, Dr. Jeffrey spent the past three years working at a small animal clinic in Sun Prairie, WI. Although she enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, she has a strong interest in feline medicine. When Dr. Jeffrey is not in the clinic, she spends time with her husband, infant daughter and three kitties.
