Dr. Hillegas is originally from Scotia, New York, and grew up on the outskirts of the Adirondack mountains. She was inspired to the world of medicine by her father, an otolaryngologist.  Her first introduction to veterinary surgery involved the local veterinarian in her area enlisting her father to perform a tonsillectomy on a spider monkey.  Dr. Hillegas received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Union College in 1998, then earned her veterinary degree from Cornell University in 2003.
She joined Blue Cross Small Animal Hospital in July 2003, and has a special interest in soft tissue surgery.  She is an avid musician, and enjoys the symphony and playing the piano whenever she has the opportunity. She enjoys time spent with her husband and their Border Collie Mix Cleo and cat Tybalt.

Dr. Amanda Donovan
Dr. Donovan was born and raised in Western New York. She has always wanted to be a veterinarian and began her career in high school as a veterinary assistant at a local animal hospital. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Biology at Canisius in 2003 and graduated from St George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.

Dr. Donovan has a special interest in small animal nutrition and exotic animal medicine - including birds, reptiles and small mammals. She loves every part of being a veterinarian and has joined the Blue Cross Animal Hospital to further expand her knowledge and abilities.

Dr. Donovan currently lives in Cheektowaga with her two rescue dogs. Karl is an 8 year old Great Dane/Pitbull mix whose favorite pastime is “pruning” trees and Purdy is a 15 year old Dalmatian who is enjoying retirement in her new home!
